BOISE, AUGUST 12 - 13 - 14, 2005
"THE ORDINARY & THE SACRED"
Friday, August 12, 7:00pm
Vajrayana is a Buddhist path that teaches the merging of the ordinary and the sacred into one. It's the only way to avoid extremes. Luckily there are special tools handed out for this assignment and then there is also what we bring to the picture. Focusing on the practical application of Vajrayana Buddhism, we will explore some Vajrayana ways for discovering Truth. Talk, discussion, and reflective exercises.

"LIFE MINUS OBSTACLES = ENLIGHTENMENT"
VAJRA KILAYA TEACHINGS & PRACTICE
Saturday & Sunday, August 13 - 14, 9:30AM - 5:30PM
Vajra Kilaya
Vajra Kilaya
Life itself, this body, and this world IS enlightenment. What gets in the way of realizing this, is termed "obstacles". Obstacles cover a lot of ground. Without an effective method for overcoming them, we can never fully awaken.
Loosely rendered as "Emptiness Dagger", the Sanskrit words "Vajra Kilaya" refer to our true wisdom nature and to the spiritual activity of overpowering the obstacles to enlightenment. The history of Vajra Kilaya dates back to India and Tibet, but it continues to be transmitted today, as in the case of His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche (1904 –1987) who received a special practice of Vajra Kilaya in a lucid dream from the wisdom dakini Yeshe Tsogyal.
Central to the Nyingma lineage, Vajra Kilaya spans the entire path of awakening from beginning to end. At the entry level, it is practiced by meditating on oneself as Vajra Kilaya,a symbolic "deity" image that transforms our point of view and allows us to allow obstacles, however conceived, to dissolve back into themselves rather than remain as the axis of struggle.
Participants will learn the basic principles of "deity" meditation, the iconography of the Vajra Kilaya mandala and will practice the Vajra Kilaya visualization and mantra. They will receive a concise practice text. Everyone is invited to deepen their knowledge of Vajrayana and to experience this awakened energy as it was practiced in Tibet.
