Hakomi—Introduction to Mindfulness-based Self-Study
Tuesday, September 7
6:00pm - 9:00pm
Boise State University
Student Union Building, The Lookout Room
$30.00 (at the event). No pre-registration.
Hakomi fuses the science of living systems and the teachings of Taoism and Buddhism. Created and developed by Ron Kurtz, Hakomi is now the most widely practiced method of body psychotherapy in the world. It is essentially a method of assisted self-study and emotional healing based on mindfulness.
This introductory session is for anyone who is interested in a holistic approach to self-understanding, healing relationships, and practical compassion.
Lama Dechen Yeshe Wangmo
Participants will engage in gentle experiential exercises which are carefully designed to cultivate self-awareness and understanding, personal freedom and creativity, and a genuine appreciation of themselves and others.
In Hakomi, nothing has to be "wrong" or "fixed". Rather, Hakomi is a profound and spiritually nourishing way of cultivating ourselves and doing good in the world!
Dechen Yeshe Wangmo is a "lama" or dharma teacher in the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. Her dharma path began in 1978 with the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche and continues today with Lama Tharchin Rinpoche who authorized her to teach in 1992. Yeshe's passion lies not only in the philosophy and application of Vajrayana to contemporary life, but also in supporting others in their personal journeys. She is the founder and president of Jnanasukha (Wisdom Bliss), a non-profit organization dedicated to the lineage of the female buddha Yeshe Tsogyal in the West. She is also the director of Lotus Gate Sanctuary on the Big Island of Hawai'i. In the past four years she has trained in Hakomi, the most widely used mindfulness-based and body-centered therapy in the world. For more information, please visit her personal website.
